Over the last decade, dreams for me have felt like real, tangible memories. And in my life I have experienced moments that I have previously dreamed about. This is where the title for my next poetry collection, Visions of Deja Reve comes in.
What is Deja Reve?
Deja Reve is the sensation of having dreamed something before experiencing it in reality.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had vivid dreams, many of which have bled into my writing. Some nights, they feel like warnings. Other nights, they’re memories I’ve never lived. Visions of Deja Reve is a collection born from those dreams, over 160 original poems tracing themes of grief, forgiveness, and romance.
If my first poetry collection, Little Black Book, was the diary of a heart learning love and loss, then this one is her older sister. She’s wiser, more reflective, and is facing her fears by facing the past.
The Chapters & Their Meanings
Each section of this collection explores a different kind of vision—a way we see and experience the past, present, and future.
Reflections – Looking back, whether to relive something beautiful or to finally answer lingering questions.
Hauntings – The memories or fears that return, unbidden, replaying in the back of your mind.
Premonitions – Visions of things that came true or those I feel were destined to.
Illuminations – The past, but seen in a different light. Some ghosts stay, but others finally let go.
Confessions – The truths I never spoke aloud, the words I never had the courage to say.
Connections – Real love, self-love, and friendships—the ones that remain, the ones that shaped me.
A Few of My Favorite Pieces (Your Sneak Peek)
The first night here feels like the hundredth.
Half-empty wine glasses,
movies on the couch.
My shoes next to yours,
your body holding mine.
Kissing in the Kitchen
Things I Could Never Say Aloud
I often think about him,
the one others wouldn’t expect.
I miss his mom,
how welcoming his friends and family were,
and having someone to creatively fuel me.
I miss not being afraid to sing aloud.
I wonder what could have been,
if we weren’t young and dumb.
I sometimes believe
we were soulmates for a different time.
Life can get so loud sometimes,
so busy and bustling.
Within our walls we’ve created something
so quiet, so soft,
it’s humming love songs.
Within the walls of our love,
my words are always flowing,
your hands are always working,
and our love is always growing.
